Are new patients able to book into see a doctor?

The doctors at Newtown Medical Centre are happy to take new patients but please check with reception if the particular doctor is taking on more patients at this time. Please call reception on (03) 5221 5044 to make an appointment. When you book an appointment a reminder will be sent to you with a link to fill out the New Patient Form online. If you are unable to do this then you can fill out the New Patient Forms here and complete them before your appointment, or reception can provide these to you on arrival at the clinic.

Is after-hours care available?

For emergency after hours care please call an ambulance on 000

General after hours care is available through the Home Doctor Service on 13 75 24 or click here to be directed to their website.

Can I make an appointment online?

There is an online booking system that existing patients can use. New patients will need to call reception to make their first appointment.  Some appointments and practitioners are not available online, please call reception to book if you cannot find a suitable appointment.

Doctor availability

The doctors consult in a variety of sessions and times throughout the week.  If your normal GP is not available we encourage you to book with one of the other doctors available. Appointments are available Monday to Friday and on Saturdays, and there are on the day appointments for urgent conditions.

What payment methods are accepted?

You can make a payment by cash, EFTPOS, cheque or credit card.

If you book certain appointments you also have the option of sorting out payment online for your convenience.

Do the doctors do immunisations?

The doctors and nurses at Newtown Medical Centre perform childhood immunisations, flu vaccinations and travel vaccinations.

I’m going on holiday and I don’t know which vaccinations I need?

Make an appointment with your GP to discuss your travel plans and get the required vaccinations for your destinations. Please make sure you book your appointment at least a month before you leave to make sure you are covered by the vaccine by the time you leave.

English isn’t my first language, what if I have trouble understanding the doctor?

Your doctor encourages patients with English language difficulties to utilise the Translating & Interpreting Service National by phoning 131 450. Reception are able to organise this services for you.

I’m hearing impaired, how will I be able to understand the doctor?

Patients with hearing difficulties are encouraged to utilise the National Auslan Booking & Payment service by phoning 1800 246 945. Reception are happy to organise this service for you, call them on  5221 5044 or email reception@newtownmc.com.au (please be mindful that this email is not encrypted and clinical or confidential information should not be communicated using this channel)

Can I phone the doctor?

If you need to contact your doctor you may leave a message with reception, and the message will be passed on to your doctor.  If it is urgent matter you will be connected with our practice nurse who can triage your issue and make arrangements to assist.

Can I discuss more than one health issue with the doctor?

Of course you can!!!   If you have multiple or complex issues you may want to book a double appointment.  The out of pocket payment is the same regardless but the doctor will have more time allocated to manage your health.

I have some feedback, who do I direct it to?

The doctors welcome your feedback and suggestions and this can be passed on to them directly during your consultation. If you wish to provide feedback on areas outside of your clinical care then please discuss this with reception or email them at reception@newtownmc.com.au or email the Manager of Newtown Medical Centre at manager@newtownmc.com.au

I need to see a doctor today, can I be squeezed in?

Not all doctors work everyday but there are usually appointments available with on of the other doctors on the day. If there is no further appointments on the day available and it is something that can’t wait for the next time our nursing team will triage your concerns and arrange an appropriate time for an appointment. Please notify reception if you require an urgent appointment.

Can I view the privacy policy?

Keeping patient information safe and secure is critical. You can read about how this is done by viewing the Privacy Policy page.

My Health Record

Your doctor is able to access your “My Health Record” . You can choose what information goes into your health record and who is allowed access to it. The My Health Record system is used by doctors, hospitals and other healthcare organisations to securely store and share medical information between healthcare providers. Please speak to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns
